On the evening of April 30, 2017, Jarvis Demarcus Ford, an 18-year-old African American male from Phenix City, Alabama, was fatally shot on 16th Avenue South. He was transported to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia, where he succumbed to his injuries.
