On the evening of April 12, 2024, law enforcement officials in Lawrence, an enclave within Indianapolis, Indiana, responded to reports of gunfire at the Jamestowne Apartments complex located in the 4400 block of Duxbury Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a harrowing scene in the parking lot where three individuals had been fatally shot. Among the victims was 19-year-old Black / African American female Londyn Coleman, a resident of Warsaw, Indiana, who was found deceased alongside her
cousin, 19-year-old Aaliyah Wortman, and 27-year-old Spencer Lawson Jr. The victims were discovered near a Chevy Cruze, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds in what investigators determined was a targeted attack.
Detectives quickly pieced together evidence from the scene, including shell casings and a cellphone belonging to a suspect, which helped identify those involved. A maintenance worker at the apartment complex reported hearing gunshots and witnessing a chase, during which he exchanged fire with one of the assailants. The investigation revealed that the shooting was likely a "set-up" execution intended for Lawson, with Coleman and Wortman tragically caught in the violence as collateral damage. Authorities identified two primary suspects in the triple homicide. One of the suspects, whose name was not released in the immediate aftermath, died by suicide shortly after the incident and was never arrested.
The second suspect, 24-year-old Malik Shaw, was apprehended and formally charged with three counts of murder. During the legal proceedings, prosecutors argued that Shaw played a direct role in the ambush. In July 2025, a jury found Shaw guilty of the murders of Londyn Coleman and Aaliyah Wortman, though they remained deadlocked on the charge related to Lawson's death. Following the conviction, Shaw was sentenced in August 2025 to 116 years in prison, receiving 58 years for each murder count to be served consecutively, effectively ensuring a life sentence for his involvement in the crime.
