On July 17, 2023, Dustin Parrie Jr., a 20-year-old resident of Harvey, Louisiana, was fatally shot at the FMT Shipyard in Harvey. The incident occurred when a recently-fired employee, identified as Willis Thomas Jr., returned to the shipyard and opened fire on his former colleagues. Parrie Jr. and another victim, 48-year-old Nakie James Brown, also from Harvey, were killed in the shooting.
