Alfred Joseph Hill Jr., a 31-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on Friday, November 18, 2016, in Harvey, Louisiana. Known affectionately as 'A.J.,' he was a native of Franklin, Louisiana, born on July 8, 1985. Hill was a beloved member of his community, recognized for his entrepreneurial drive and his talents as a barber. Having graduated from West St.
Mary High School in 2003, he pursued his passion for cosmetology, earning his license after attending Camelot University in Baton Rouge and Delgado Community College in New Orleans. He established his own barber business, 'Fresh Cutts,' and was particularly known for his generosity in providing free haircuts to young boys at back-to-school events.
On that fateful November day, shortly before noon, Hill was discovered at the back of an apartment complex located on the 4200 block of Lac Couture Drive. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The promising life of the young man, who also had aspirations of expanding his business ventures to include a food truck, was abruptly cut short.
In the wake of the homicide, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office launched an investigation that led to the identification of several individuals believed to be connected to the crime. Authorities arrested 32-year-old Michael Adams, who was booked with first-degree murder and felony possession of a firearm. Also taken into custody was 21-year-old Jerryco Johnson, who faced a charge of principal to first-degree murder.
Detectives also named a third individual, 23-year-old Charles Johnson of Gretna, as a suspect involved in the murder of Alfred Hill. While arrests were made, a motive for the shooting was not publicly released by the authorities. The community was left to mourn the loss of a devoted family man and talented entrepreneur whose life was violently ended.
