An 18-year-old African American male, Torey Payne, was fatally shot in Harvey, Louisiana on the evening of July 30, 2017. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. in the 1600 block of Ester Street. Payne was inside a stolen 2014 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck with several other individuals when a group of unidentified young men approached the vehicle and opened fire.
Following the shooting, the others in the vehicle drove Payne to Algiers before taking him to Ochsner Medical Center on the West
Bank. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was then transferred to University Hospital. Tragically, Torey Payne succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead on the morning of July 31, 2017.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office opened a homicide investigation. However, authorities reported that they had not identified any suspects or a motive for the attack. As of the most recent available information, the case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Torey Payne. The investigation into his death is ongoing.
