In the winter of 2014, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in a brutal act of violence that shook an Indianapolis neighborhood. Hayley Navarra, a 21-year-old female, was killed on February 20, 2014, in a quadruple homicide on the city's southeast side. The incident unfolded inside a home where four individuals would ultimately lose their lives in what police described as an act that was not random.
The home was the site of a drug business, and the initial motive for the crime
was robbery. Four individuals were later taken into custody in connection with the failed robbery and murders. The suspects were identified as Anthony Larusa, 26, Kenneth 'Cody' Rackemann, 24, Valencia Williams, 21, and Samantha Bradley, 20. Larusa was reportedly a frequent business associate of Walter Burnell, the 47-year-old homeowner and one of the victims. Rackemann had been providing security for Burnell at the drug house.
According to police, Larusa orchestrated the robbery, knowing that cash and drugs were plentiful at the residence. The situation escalated when Rackemann allegedly demanded money from Burnell, who refused. Rackemann is then said to have shot and killed Burnell, as well as two others in a bedroom: 43-year-old Jacob Rodemich and 22-year-old Kristy Mae Sanchez.
Hayley Navarra was shot in the neck but initially survived. A witness to the killings told investigators that Navarra pleaded for her life. After Rackemann's gun ran out of bullets and he was unable to operate another weapon, he reportedly called Valencia Williams into the house. Williams is then accused of shooting Navarra twice in the head, ending her life. The perpetrators reportedly escaped with less than $100.
In the aftermath, Samantha Bradley, who drove the getaway car and disposed of evidence, accepted a plea deal. She pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of conspiracy to commit robbery resulting in death and agreed to testify against the others. In March of 2017, she was sentenced to 30 years, with six to be served and 24 suspended.
