On the evening of July 30, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana, 29-year-old Alonna Steen was found shot to death in the driver's seat of her running car on Hendricks Place. The grim discovery was made at approximately 9:15 p.m., and she was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy would later reveal that she had sustained six gunshot wounds, and her death was ruled a homicide.
At the scene, police encountered Taylor Boyd, Alonna's 27-year-old ex-boyfriend and the father of her child.
Boyd himself had called 911, and in a chilling admission to the dispatcher, he stated, "I killed her." He informed the authorities that they had been arguing throughout the day and claimed that a struggle over his gun ensued, leading to the fatal shooting. Officers recovered a Glock handgun with. 45-caliber ammunition from the front porch, where Boyd had told them he placed it, and found additional live rounds in his hoodie pocket.
During his interview with investigators, Boyd reportedly claimed that his schizophrenia was "acting up" and admitted to not taking his medication consistently, as well as drinking alcohol before the shooting. He also allegedly expressed a lack of remorse, stating that he "didn't care" if Alonna was alive and that she should not have tried to take his gun. The couple's child was not present during the incident and was safely with Alonna's mother. Friends and family of Alonna recalled her radiant smile and her ability to bring laughter and energy into any room. They had reportedly been concerned about her relationship with Boyd long before her tragic death. Following the incident, Taylor Boyd was arrested and charged with murder, and the case has been classified as a domestic-related homicide. As of early August 2026, Boyd remained in custody while the case proceeds through the criminal justice system.
