On a tragic Labor Day in Indianapolis, a vibrant 23-year-old Black/African American woman named Anya E. J. West, known affectionately as 'Veego,' lost her life to gun violence. The incident that led to her untimely death occurred on September 6, 2021, at Windsor Village Park on the city's east side. Around 3 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of East 24th Street and North Kitley Avenue where they found Anya with a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders transported her to IU Health
Methodist Hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Anya succumbed to her injuries shortly after her arrival. The Marion County Coroner's Office later confirmed her identity and determined the cause of death to be the gunshot wound she sustained. At the time of the incident, investigators had not released any information regarding a possible motive or any potential suspects in the shooting.
Anya, born on January 9, 1998, was remembered by her loved ones for her dynamic personality and entrepreneurial drive. She was actively involved in creative pursuits, including her own clothing line and music production. Her death left a profound void in her community, and her family continues to seek justice.
