On the evening of June 5, 2021, a gathering for a child's birthday party in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of South St. Louis, Missouri, turned into a scene of violence. William Deandre Kennedy, a 27-year-old male, was in attendance at the celebration held on the 3000 block of Mount Pleasant Street. The festivities were abruptly halted when Kennedy was targeted and shot by another individual present at the event.
The injuries sustained during the shooting proved fatal for Kennedy, who
died as a result of the gun violence. The incident prompted an immediate response from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, who began an investigation into the homicide. Authorities confirmed that the shooting was not a random act from an outsider but involved someone who was also at the party.
Shortly after the shooting occurred, a suspect identified as Michael G. Davis Jr., a 22-year-old male, surrendered to authorities. Davis turned himself in at police headquarters just minutes after the incident took place. Following his surrender, prosecutors charged Davis with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Kennedy’s death.
