Richard Benjamin Speck was an American mass murderer who committed one of the most gruesome crimes in U.S. history. On the night of July 13-14, 1966, he brutally murdered eight student nurses in a townhouse on Chicago’s South Side. His crime shocked the nation and became one of the most infamous mass killings of the 20th century.
The Night of Terror: July 13-14, 1966
Speck entered the townhouse at 2319 East 100th Street in Chicago, where nine student nurses from South Chicago Community Hospital lived. Armed with a knife and a gun, he held the women hostage, systematically separating and murdering them one by one. The only survivor, Corazon Amurao, managed to hide under a bed and later identified Speck as the killer.
