Introduction

Wayne Nathan Nance, also known as "The Missoula Mauler," was a suspected American serial killer active in Montana between 1974 and 1986. Though never formally charged or convicted, evidence linked him to at least six murders. His reign of terror ended when he was fatally shot during a home invasion attempt.

Early Life

Wayne Nance was born on October 18, 1955, in Clinton, Montana. He was described as academically gifted but eccentric, with a troubling fascination with Satanism during his adolescence. Nance graduated from Sentinel High School in 1974 and later worked various jobs, including as a furniture deliveryman and bouncer.

Crimes

Nance's crimes were brutal and calculated, often involving rape, shooting, or stabbing. Below is a list of his known victims:

• Donna Lorraine Pounds - April 11, 1974, in West Riverside, Montana. Nance raped and murdered the 39-year-old by shooting her five times in the head in her basement.
• Devonna Nelson - 1980, near Beavertail Hill State Park, Montana. The 15-year-old Seattle runaway was raped and stabbed to death.
• Michael and Theresa Hook - 1985, in Missoula, Montana. The couple was murdered in their home, with evidence later linking Nance to the crime.
• Unidentified Jane Doe - 1984, in Missoula, Montana. A woman believed to have stayed briefly with Nance was found dead, with her hair matching evidence from his home.
