Vijay Kumar and the 2026 Lawrenceville Family Killings

Overview of the Case

Vijay Kumar, a 51-year-old Atlanta resident, was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting deaths of his wife and three members of her family in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The quadruple homicide occurred during the early morning of January 23, 2026, inside a residence on Brook Ivy Court. Although Kumar has been accused of carrying out the killings, he has pleaded not guilty, and the criminal case remained unresolved as of July 2026. Authorities described the shooting as a domestic-related incident that apparently began with an argument between Kumar and his wife, 43-year-old Meemu Dogra. Investigators said the dispute started at the couple's home in Atlanta. Kumar, Dogra and their 12-year-old child subsequently traveled to the Lawrenceville residence where Dogra's relatives lived. Police had not publicly established why the family went to the house or precisely what caused the confrontation to escalate into gunfire.

The Shooting on Brook Ivy Court

Shortly before approximately 2:30 a.m. on January 23, gunfire erupted inside the Lawrenceville home. Police allege that Kumar shot Dogra and three of her relatives: Gourav Cumar, Nidhi Chander and Harish Chander. All four adults suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the residence. Three children were inside the house as the violence unfolded. They included Kumar and Dogra's 12-year-old child and two younger children, ages 7 and 10, who lived at the Lawrenceville residence. The children sought protection by hiding together inside a closet. From their hiding place, the 12-year-old called 911 and reported the shooting, allowing officers to reach the home while the suspected gunman was still nearby. When Gwinnett County police entered the residence, they discovered the bodies of the four adults. Officers also located the three children in the closet. None of the children had been physically injured, although they had been present during an extraordinarily traumatic act of violence that killed members of their immediate and extended family.

Victims

• Meemu Dogra, 43, was Kumar's wife. She was fatally shot on January 23, 2026, at the Brook Ivy Court residence in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, Georgia.
• Gourav Cumar, 33, was a relative of Dogra who lived at or was associated with the Lawrenceville residence. He was killed during the January 23 shooting.
• Nidhi Chander, 37, was a member of Dogra's family and one of the adults found fatally shot inside the home on January 23, 2026.
• Harish Chander, 38, was another relative killed inside the Brook Ivy Court residence during the same early-morning attack.
