In the quiet suburbs of Lawrenceville, Georgia, a domestic dispute spiraled into a devastating tragedy, claiming the life of 37-year-old Nidhi Chander and three of her relatives on January 23, 2026. Nidhi, a woman of Indian descent, was fatally shot inside a home on Brook Ivy Court in what authorities have described as a domestic-related incident.
The events of that fatal morning began with an argument between Vijay Kumar, 51, and his wife, Meemu Dogra, 43, at their Atlanta residence.
For reasons that remain unclear, the couple then traveled with their 12-year-old child to the Lawrenceville home where Nidhi Chander resided with her husband, Harish Chander, 38, and another relative, Gourav Cumar, 33. Two other children, ages seven and ten, were also present in the house.
Sometime after their arrival, the dispute escalated, and Vijay Kumar allegedly opened fire, killing his wife, Meemu Dogra, along with Nidhi Chander, Harish Chander, and Gourav Cumar. Amid the chaos, the three children in the home, including Kumar and Dogra's 12-year-old, sought refuge by hiding in a closet. It was from this hiding place that the eldest child bravely called 911, alerting the authorities to the horrific events unfolding.
Gwinnett County police responded to the scene around 2:30 a.m. and discovered the four adults deceased from gunshot wounds. A short distance from the home, officers located and arrested Vijay Kumar without incident. He has since been charged with four counts of malice murder, four counts of felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault, one count of first-degree cruelty to children, and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children. The investigation into the motive and the specific sequence of events that led to the multiple homicides is ongoing.
