An 83-year-old woman, June Fiveash, became the victim of a shocking act of violence in her Lawrenceville, Georgia home. Her life came to a sudden and tragic end in what police would later describe as a murder-suicide.
The grim discovery was made on a Wednesday in May 2020, after a hospice nurse grew concerned. The nurse had a scheduled appointment with June, and when she was unable to make contact, she requested that authorities perform a wellness check.
Acting on this request, officers from the Gwinnett County Police Department were dispatched to June's residence located in the 700 block of Highland Ridge Point. Upon entering the home, they found the bodies of both June Fiveash and her 51-year-old son, Russell Fiveash.
The subsequent investigation by law enforcement led them to believe that Russell Fiveash was the perpetrator of the violence. It is believed that he shot and killed his mother before taking his own life. While the authorities confirmed the nature of the deaths, a clear motive for the murder-suicide was not immediately released as the investigation continued.
