In the early morning hours of January 23, 2026, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragic quadruple homicide in a quiet Lawrenceville, Georgia neighborhood. Among the victims was Meemu Dogra, a 43-year-old woman of Indian nationality. The incident unfolded after an argument between Dogra and her husband, 51-year-old Vijay Kumar, at their Atlanta home. Following the disagreement, Dogra traveled with their 12-year-old child to a relative's residence on Brook Ivy Court in Lawrenceville.
Kumar also went to the home.
Tragically, the conflict continued and resulted in the fatal shooting of Meemu Dogra and three of her relatives who lived at the home: Gourav Cumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38. The shootings occurred while three children, including Dogra and Kumar's 12-year-old, were inside the house. The children, aged 7, 10, and 12, were able to hide in a closet and were physically unharmed. One of the children bravely called 911 at approximately 2:30 a.m. to report the shooting.
Upon arriving at the scene, Gwinnett County police discovered the four adult victims inside the residence, all deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Vijay Kumar was located by police in a wooded area near the home and was taken into custody. He has since been arrested and is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County jail.
Vijay Kumar faces a multitude of charges in connection with the deaths. These include four counts of malice murder, four counts of felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault, one count of first-degree cruelty to children, and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children. The Consulate General of India in Atlanta has expressed their condolences and confirmed they are providing assistance to the bereaved family members. The investigation into the specific details of the argument that led to the deadly shooting is ongoing.
