In the early morning hours of January 23, 2026, a domestic argument that began in an Atlanta home culminated in a tragic shooting in Lawrenceville, Georgia, leaving 33-year-old Gourav Cumar and three others dead. The other victims were identified as Meemu Dogra, 43, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38. Cumar, along with the Chanders, were relatives of Dogra and resided at the Brook Ivy Court home where the incident occurred.
The suspect, 51-year-old Vijay Kumar of Atlanta, was the
husband of Meemu Dogra. Investigators believe that a dispute between Kumar and Dogra at their Atlanta residence escalated, leading them to drive to the Lawrenceville home with their 12-year-old child. It was this child who bravely called 911 at approximately 2:30 a.m. to report the shooting.
Upon their arrival, Gwinnett County police discovered the four adult victims inside the residence, all having succumbed to gunshot wounds. Three children, including the 12-year-old who made the emergency call and two younger relatives aged 7 and 10, were found physically unharmed, hiding in a closet. Vijay Kumar was located a short distance from the home and taken into custody without incident.
Authorities have described the killings as "domestic-related," though the specific cause of the initial argument remains unclear. Kumar has been charged with four counts of malice murder, four counts of felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault, one count of first-degree cruelty to children, and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children. He is currently being held without bond.
