In the winter of 2014, a life was tragically cut short in Lawrenceville, Georgia, during a dispute that escalated to gunfire. The victim was 19-year-old Kevin Dawoyea, a male resident of the area. friend Kevin Emanuel, who was 21 at the time, and another friend, 17-year-old Isaiah Lo. During the course of the brawl, Emanuel allegedly brandished a handgun. His intended target was reportedly another young man involved in the fight. However, in a tragic turn of events, the bullet missed its mark and struck Kevin Dawoyea in the chest. The incident was partially captured on a cellphone video by a witness.
Following the shooting, Emanuel and Lo hastily put the wounded Dawoyea in a car and fled the scene. Their next movements were tracked by surveillance video to a nearby doctor's office. The footage showed them carrying Dawoyea inside, seeking medical help for their friend who had been shot. After leaving him on the floor of the office, the two departed before help could be rendered. Within a couple of days, both Kevin Emanuel and Isaiah Lo turned themselves in to the Lawrenceville Police Department. Emanuel was subsequently charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. His family expressed their disbelief, stating that Emanuel and Dawoyea were best friends and that the shooting was not intentional. Isaiah Lo was also arrested and faced a charge of aggravated assault in connection with the initial fight. Both suspects were held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
