In a quiet subdivision in Lawrenceville, Georgia, the life of 25-year-old Jeffrey Anderson was brought to a violent end in November 2015. His death, which appeared at first to be a senseless act, was later revealed to be a meticulously ordered hit stemming from a trivial debt. Anderson was discovered shot to death inside a home in the River Station Estates.
Investigators soon learned that the murder was not a random act of violence but a calculated execution with roots inside the Georgia state prison system.
The investigation uncovered a grim plot orchestrated by Gordon Anthony Evans, an incarcerated leader of the Bloods gang. Evans, who was serving a lengthy sentence in Hancock State Prison, allegedly ordered the killing of Anderson over a $500 loan that he believed Anderson was not using for its intended purpose of paying rent. From behind bars, Evans reportedly felt disrespected when he saw Anderson spending money at clubs on Facebook and decided to take lethal action.
To carry out the murder, Evans enlisted the help of fellow gang members Dossie Mann and Durell Leeshon Lewis. The two men went to the Lawrenceville home on November 24th, where they confronted Anderson. Before he was fatally shot twice in the back of the head, Anderson was held underwater in a bathtub and had pleaded for his life, telling his attackers that he had a young child.
The case was methodically pieced together by law enforcement through the use of cellphone records and wiretaps, which included recordings from a contraband phone Evans was using in prison. Mann eventually confessed to his role in the murder, implicating both Evans and Lewis. All three men were subsequently charged in connection with Anderson's death. Dossie Mann faced a litany of charges, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, aggravated battery, and participation in gang activity. Gordon Anthony Evans and Durell Leeshon Lewis were also charged with murder for their roles in the brutal slaying that was set in motion from a prison cell over a small sum of money.
