In the early morning hours of a Sunday in Lawrenceville, Georgia, the life of 21-year-old Jeffery Gibson III was tragically cut short. On April 6, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., gunfire erupted outside of Dillons Sports Bar, located in a shopping center on Dogwood Road. When Gwinnett County police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered shell casings in two separate areas of the parking lot, one directly in front of the bar and another near a neighboring nail salon.
Prior to
the arrival of law enforcement, a 911 caller had informed dispatch that they were transporting Gibson, who had sustained at least one gunshot wound, to a local hospital. Despite the swift action to get him medical attention, Jeffery Gibson III succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The vehicle used to transport him was later impounded by the police for processing as part of the homicide investigation.
At the scene of the shooting, police took a suspect into custody. The individual was identified as 26-year-old Marcus Robinson of Dacula. Following an initial investigation, Robinson was arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was subsequently booked into the Gwinnett County Jail, where he was held without bond.
In the days following the shooting, investigators returned to the shopping center to review surveillance footage from the sports bar and other nearby businesses in an effort to piece together the events that led to the fatal encounter. While an arrest was made promptly, the motive for the shooting was not immediately clear to authorities, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Jeffery Gibson III's death remained ongoing.
