Overview

Paul Durousseau is an American serial killer who was convicted of multiple murders committed between 1997 and 2003. Known as the "Jacksonville Strangler," Durousseau targeted young African-American women, many of whom he met through his job as a taxi driver or while working as a security guard. His crimes were characterized by strangulation, often using items such as belts, electrical cords, or even shoelaces. Durousseau typically raped his victims before killing them, and in some cases, the women were pregnant at the time of their deaths.

Background

Born on August 11, 1970, in Beaumont, Texas, Durousseau was raised by a single mother and later joined the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany. After returning to the United States, he settled in Jacksonville, Florida. Despite a history of domestic violence and minor crimes, Durousseau was able to secure various jobs that allowed him access to women, including roles as a school bus driver and security guard.
