The Attack on Betty Lee Hanson - December 25, 1973
On Christmas night in 1973, 15-year-old Betty Lee Hanson and a friend were hitchhiking during a blizzard when they accepted a ride from Andrews. Once inside his vehicle, they noticed the absence of interior door handles. Andrews threatened them with a knife, stabbing Hanson's friend in the lung. In a desperate attempt to escape, Hanson grabbed the steering wheel, causing the car to crash into a drainage ditch. Despite being stabbed herself, Hanson managed to fight back, stabbing Andrews twice before escaping. This courageous act led to Andrews' arrest, but he was released after a year of court proceedings due to insufficient evidence. Hanson later recounted her ordeal in the book "True Crime Story: I Survived A Monster" by Opal Roux.
