William Dean Christensen: The American Jack the Ripper
Early Life and Initial Crimes
Born on September 24, 1945, in Bethesda, Maryland, William Dean Christensen embarked on a violent criminal path early in life. His first major offense occurred in 1969 when he stabbed a teenage girl in Washington, D.C., resulting in charges of assault and battery. Two years later, in 1971, he pleaded guilty to raping a go-go dancer in Maryland, for which he served nine years in prison before being paroled in 1980.
Crimes in Canada
After his release, Christensen relocated to Montreal, Canada, under the alias "Richard Owen." On April 16, 1981, he was arrested for indecent assault but was inadvertently released by Canadian authorities in 1982, despite being a suspect in other violent crimes.
