David James Torgerson: A Detailed Account of His Crimes

Early Life and Psychological History

David James Torgerson was born on July 16, 1943, in Austin, Minnesota. His early life was marked by significant psychological disturbances, leading to multiple institutionalizations. He spent time in the psychiatric ward of the Rochester State Hospital from August 1959 to July 1961 and again from January 1964 to June 1967. During these periods, he assaulted two female staff members, attempting to strangle them on separate occasions. Despite these violent tendencies, Torgerson managed to outwit mental health professionals, leading to his eventual release.

Criminal Activities and Escalation

In 1970, Torgerson was sentenced to five years in prison, with three months credited for time served, after unlawfully entering a woman's apartment and assaulting her. This incident marked the beginning of a series of violent crimes that would escalate over the next few years.
