Unsolved Deaths Along Rapid Creek: 1998-2000

Between May 1998 and December 2000, Rapid City, South Dakota, experienced a series of tragic deaths. Eleven men, predominantly Native American and homeless, were found deceased in or near Rapid Creek. The suddenness and similarity of these incidents raised concerns within the community about potential foul play.

Community Response and Investigations

The Native American community voiced concerns about the nature of these deaths and the adequacy of investigations. In 2009, Laurette Pourier, a Native American educator, expressed that many believed the deaths weren't thoroughly investigated. Pennington County Sheriff Don Holloway acknowledged the unusual frequency of the deaths within a short period and suggested that they might not all be accidental.
