Early Life and Formation of the Gang
Gustave Marx was born in 1885 in Chicago, Illinois. Alongside his associates Peter Neidermeyer, Harvey Van Dine, and Emil Roeski, Marx became part of a notorious criminal group known as the "Car Barn Bandits." Their criminal activities began in 1901 when they were arrested for stealing lead pipe from the Audubon School in Chicago, resulting in a three-month sentence in the Bridewell jail.
Escalation to Violent Crimes
After their release, the gang escalated their criminal activities to more violent offenses, including armed robberies and murders. Their crime spree instilled fear throughout Chicago and its surrounding areas.
