Five People Found Dead in a Rural Oregon Home
On August 11, 2025, a welfare check at a rural residence in Josephine County, Oregon, revealed the deaths of a woman, three young children and the man authorities identified as their suspected killer. Oregon State Police named 40-year-old Chad Scott Behee as the suspected gunman in what investigators described as a murder-suicide. The Welfare Check
The investigation began after Hannah Marie Behee failed to arrive at work on Monday, August 11. Her absence was described as highly unusual, prompting someone familiar with her routine to request that law enforcement check on her welfare. At approximately 9:37 that morning, deputies from the Josephine County Sheriff's Office traveled to the Hussey Lane residence.
When deputies arrived, they reportedly noticed suspicious circumstances around the property. Officials have not publicly provided a complete description of what the responding officers observed, but the conditions were concerning enough for deputies and Oregon State Police personnel to enter the home and check on its occupants.
Inside the residence, officers encountered a devastating scene. Five people were dead, and investigators determined that each appeared to have been shot. The bodies included Hannah, her three children and Chad Scott Behee. There was no indication that another attacker remained inside the home or was being sought in connection with the deaths.
