Daron Wint and the 2015 D.C. Mansion Murders

Overview

In May 2015, four people were brutally killed in a home invasion and arson at the Savopoulos family residence in Washington, D.C. The victims—businessman Savvas Savopoulos, his wife Amy, their 10-year-old son Philip, and the family’s housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa—were held captive, extorted, and murdered over roughly 19 hours. Daron Dylon Wint was later convicted of their killings and sentenced to four consecutive life terms without the possibility of release.

Timeline: May 13–14, 2015

According to investigators, the captives were restrained inside the house beginning on May 13, 2015. During the ordeal, $40,000 in cash was delivered to the home; the victims were then killed and the house set ablaze on May 14. Firefighters discovered the three Savopoulos family members and Figueroa after responding to the fire; all had suffered blunt- and sharp-force injuries, and Philip had also been stabbed. The family’s blue Porsche was later found burned in Maryland. The crime occurred at the Savopoulos residence in Woodley Park—historically addressed as 3201 Woodland Drive NW (later associated with the corner property at 2802 32nd St. NW).

Investigation and Arrest

Detectives linked Wint to the scene through DNA recovered from a Domino’s pizza crust delivered to the house while the victims were being held. Wint, a former employee of American Iron Works—a company led by Savvas Savopoulos—was identified as a suspect and arrested after a multistate search. ...Read More
