Overview
On April 2, 2012, former nursing student One L. Goh carried out a mass shooting at Oikos University, a small Korean Christian college located at 7850 Edgewater Drive in Oakland, California. Seven people were killed and three others were wounded, making it the deadliest mass killing in Oakland’s history. The attack began around 10:30–10:33 a.m. Pacific time.
Location and Timeline
The shooting unfolded inside a nursing classroom at Oikos University in East Oakland, near the Oakland International Airport. Police received the initial 911 call at approximately 10:33 a.m., and first officers arrived within minutes. After the attack, Goh fled the campus in a car belonging to a victim and later surrendered at a Safeway in the South Shore area of Alameda, roughly five miles away.
How the Attack Occurred
Witness accounts described Goh standing up during class, ordering people to line up against a wall, and opening fire with a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun. Investigators said he brought multiple loaded magazines and used most of the roughly 40 rounds he had with him.
