Summary based on 1 source
On an early morning in April 2017, the life of 28-year-old Maurice Martinez was tragically cut short in a shooting on the southeast side of Indianapolis. The incident occurred on Portage Court, located near the intersection of Stop 11 Road and Madison Avenue. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Martinez was quickly transported to Eskenazi Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries a short time after arriving.

The investigation into the death of the male victim led authorities to identify a suspect. Law enforcement officials took 27-year-old Briana Wilson into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. Following her arrest, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office formally charged her with murder. Court documents later revealed that Wilson claimed to have shot Martinez in self-defense during an altercation inside her apartment. However, a jury ultimately convicted her of the crime.
