The group had hosted a gathering the night before, and many were sleeping when a sudden loud noise pierced the quiet just before 7:00 AM.
Startled awake, Gomez emerged from his bedroom, stating
that he believed he had been shot. Shortly after his alarming words, he collapsed. Emergency services were called, and he was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal. Investigators determined that Gomez had been shot by a young white male through his open bedroom window.

A neighbor's security camera captured footage of two young white males fleeing the scene in a gray or silver Pontiac Grand Prix, believed to be a 2003 to 2008 model.
