In the autumn of 2018, the life of 21-year-old Drake Amir Wells, a male resident of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Sunday, September 30th, police were called to a home in the 3500 block of Congress Avenue following reports of a shooting. Inside, they discovered 28-year-old Nathaniel Nix II suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
A witness at the scene reported seeing another man fleeing the
area. A subsequent search of the vicinity by police, aided by a K-9 unit, led to the discovery of Wells's body in a nearby yard. He had sustained fatal gunshot wounds, and his death was officially ruled a homicide by the coroner's office. Wells's death marked the 36th homicide in Allen County for that year.
In the immediate aftermath, the Fort Wayne Police Department announced that the shooting was under investigation. However, in the years that have followed, no public announcements have been made regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in connection with the death of Drake Amir Wells. The case remains an unsolved homicide, leaving a resolution yet to be found for his family and the community.
