In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the life of Felton Oneil Walker was tragically cut short. On March 26, 2019, at approximately 10:30 p.m., the sound of multiple gunshots echoed through the 4400 block of Smith Street. Responding to the reports, police officers arrived at a home to find 23-year-old Felton Walker unresponsive inside.
He was suffering from several gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel rushed Walker to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but his injuries proved to be too severe. He was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The Allen County Coroner's Office later confirmed that Walker, a Black / African American male, died from multiple gunshot wounds and officially ruled his death a homicide.
Investigators determined that Walker was inside the residence when an unknown individual, or individuals, opened fire from outside the house. At least one of the bullets fired from the exterior of the home struck and fatally wounded him. Detectives with the Fort Wayne Police Department interviewed several witnesses who were present at the scene at the time of the shooting.
Despite the witness interviews, no information about a potential suspect or suspects was immediately released to the public. The investigation into the murder of Felton Walker remains ongoing. To date, no arrests have been announced in connection with his death, and the case has grown cold. His death was one of 29 homicides recorded in Allen County in 2019, the majority of which were the result of gun violence.
