On the evening of October 27, 2019, a heated argument in Birmingham, Alabama, tragically cut short the life of 27-year-old Gjamal Antonio Rodriguez. The male victim was discovered inside a vehicle on Shawnee Lane around 7:15 p.m., suffering from gunshot wounds. Alongside him, a female companion had also been shot, though her injuries were not life-threatening. Emergency responders transported Rodriguez to UAB Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 8:56 p.m.
The incident drew wider attention as it was revealed that Rodriguez was the brother of NFL linebacker Mario Addison.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, and just two days later, Birmingham Police announced the arrest of a suspect. Twenty-two-year-old Darius Frazier was taken into custody and charged with capital murder in connection with Rodriguez's death and attempted murder for the injuries sustained by the female victim.
