On the evening of April 13, 2018, Jeremy Anthony Davis, a 38-year-old male, was shot and killed in a vehicle in an unincorporated area of Jefferson County, Alabama. The events of that night began to unfold when the driver of the car carrying Davis pulled into the parking lot of the Midfield Police Department and reported that his passenger had been shot. Inside the vehicle, officers found Davis deceased in the passenger seat.
The driver recounted a chilling story to investigators.
He explained that he had met with Davis, a resident of Bessemer, for a marijuana transaction. Following Davis's instructions, he drove to the dead end of Salina Avenue. It was there that an unknown man approached the vehicle, opened fire on Davis, and then robbed the driver of his cell phone and wallet. The assailant then ordered the driver to leave with Davis still in the car.
Jefferson County Sheriff's detectives took over the investigation and soon identified 32-year-old Horace Earl Jackson as the primary suspect. Their investigation revealed that Jackson had arranged to meet Davis on Salina Avenue. An argument reportedly broke out between the two men, which culminated in Jackson pulling out a gun and shooting Davis multiple times. Following the shooting, Jackson robbed the driver before instructing him to drive away.
Less than a month later, the investigation led to a second arrest. Detectives determined that Horace Jackson's wife, 24-year-old Courtney Carson Jackson, had also participated in the crime. On May 8, 2018, warrants were issued for her arrest, and she was taken into custody. Both Horace and Courtney Jackson were charged with Capital Murder and first-degree robbery for their alleged roles in the death of Jeremy Anthony Davis.
