On August 20, 2022, at approximately 8:42 p.m., Birmingham Police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating a single gunshot in the 500 block of Francis Place Southwest. Upon arrival, they discovered 29-year-old Cedric Brent Mahaffey unresponsive in the front room of a residence, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
