Police Officer Edward K. Alley Jr., aged 34, was fatally shot on December 25, 1980, while in the line of duty. The incident occurred when Officer Alley was attempting to apprehend two suspects involved in a convenience store robbery at the Majik Mart on 5th Avenue South in Birmingham, Alabama.
