On July 16, 2017, 47-year-old Erskine Hawkins was fatally shot in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred in the early morning hours near the 900 block of 4th Avenue West. Birmingham Police officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered Hawkins lying unresponsive on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
