On June 6, 2022, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating 21 rounds fired in the 1100 block of 40th Street Ensley. Upon arrival, they discovered a white van riddled with bullet holes. Inside, 37-year-old Michael Lazaria Arrington was found unresponsive in the driver's seat and pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to UAB Hospital.
