On November 8, 2022, at approximately 12:44 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a reported home invasion in the 5300 block of Avenue O. Concurrently, a call was received about a man, later identified as 29-year-old Jamel Nathan Thomas, who had been shot and was at the Chevron gas station located at 1381 Bessemer Road.
