Jamel Nathan Thomas, a 29-year-old Black male from Birmingham, was fatally shot in the early hours of November 8, 2022, after what investigators said began as an apparent home invasion in west Birmingham. Police said the first call came in around 12:44 a.m. from the 5300 block of Avenue O, where a resident reported a break-in.
