On April 9, 2024, 44-year-old Anthony Lamar Love Jr., a UPS employee from Alabaster, Alabama, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the UPS Customer Center on Inglenook Lane in Birmingham. The incident occurred around 6:05 p.m. as Love was walking to his vehicle after completing his shift. An unknown assailant approached and fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene. Responding officers found Love unresponsive; he was pronounced dead at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services.
