On May 16, 2019, at approximately 8:40 p.m., 23-year-old Eric Alexander Gunn Jr. was fatally shot near the Village Market parking lot on 2nd Avenue South in Birmingham, Alabama. Upon arrival, Birmingham Police officers found Gunn across the street from the parking lot, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
