On the evening of March 30, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the rush-hour commute on Interstate 65 in Indianapolis, claiming the life of 24-year-old Malik Phillips. A passenger in a dark purple Toyota Scion, Phillips was struck by bullets fired from another vehicle near the Lafayette Road exit around 5:30 p.m. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
