In the early evening of December 22, 2014, the life of 21-year-old Darius Courtland Rose, a male resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, was tragically cut short. At approximately 5:50 p.m., in the 700 block of Roache Street on the city's near-north side, Rose was shot. He was quickly transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
Darius Rose was a construction worker for the Mt. Helix Construction Company.
His sudden and violent death left behind a grieving family, including his mother, Barnettia Rose-Barlow, his daughter, Aniyah Rose, and his two brothers, Brandon and Quentin Rose. The community mourned with his family, and funeral services were held on January 3, 2015, at the Puritan Missionary Baptist Church, followed by his burial at Crown Hill Cemetery.
In the wake of the shooting, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation that quickly led to a breakthrough. A 17-year-old male was identified as a suspect in the fatal shooting of Darius Rose. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center. The arrest brought a small measure of solace to a family and community shaken by the senseless loss of a young man in the prime of his life.
