In the late summer of 1995, a 34-year-old Caucasian male named Jerry Williams-Comer vanished from Indianapolis, Indiana, leaving behind a deepening mystery. He was last seen on August 8, 1995, and shortly after, his car was discovered abandoned at the Castleton Square Mall. For his loved ones, the silence that followed was a heavy burden, filled with unanswered questions and growing dread.
As days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, the hope of his safe return dwindled, and a more sinister possibility began to cast a long shadow over his disappearance.
The investigation into Jerry's case eventually intersected with one of Indiana's most infamous criminal investigations: the hunt for a serial killer preying on young men in the Indianapolis area. Authorities began to suspect that Jerry was a victim of Herbert Baumeister, a seemingly successful businessman leading a dark double life. Baumeister, a married father of three, owned an 18-acre estate in Westfield known as Fox Hollow Farm, a property that would later reveal a gruesome secret. Investigators believe Baumeister was responsible for the deaths of numerous young men, many of whom he met at gay bars. As a young gay man, Jerry fit the profile of Baumeister's other victims.
The full horror of the case began to unfold when investigators searched Baumeister's vast property. They discovered the burned and crushed skeletal remains of at least eleven individuals, though thousands of bone fragments were scattered across the grounds. While Jerry Williams-Comer is considered a confirmed victim of Baumeister, his remains have not been among those identified from the horrific discoveries at Fox Hollow Farm. The primary suspect in these numerous slayings would never face a jury. In June 1996, as law enforcement prepared to arrest him, Herbert Baumeister fled to Canada and took his own life. In his suicide note, he lamented his failing business and marriage but offered no confession or clues about the men he was suspected of murdering, leaving families like Jerry's with a painful and unresolved conclusion.
