In the summer of 2022, on a Sunday afternoon, the life of Larry Wayne Cagg was tragically cut short. On July 10th, in an alley on the near southwest side of Indianapolis, the 43-year-old man was shot and killed. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 1200 block of Kappes Street and found Cagg suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The footage revealed a preceding altercation where Larry Cagg punched a friend of 17-year-old William Elder. In response, Elder shot Cagg. This crucial piece of evidence led to the swift arrest of Elder.
Due to the nature of the crime, William Elder was charged with murder, and his case was automatically transferred to the adult court system. This is standard procedure in Indiana for 16 or 17-year-olds accused of murder. The case highlighted a concerning trend of increasing juvenile involvement in homicides within the city that year.
Larry Cagg, born on December 17, 1978, in Indianapolis, was remembered by his family and friends. His obituary describes him as a man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was survived by his parents and several sisters. The community was left to grapple with the sudden and violent loss of a life and the sobering reality of youth violence.
