On March 13, 2024, the quiet morning in a west-side Indianapolis neighborhood was disrupted when police officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Medford Avenue following a report of a person down. Upon their arrival around 10:20 a.m., authorities discovered the body of 24-year-old Cadari Lamont Warren, a Black male, lying in the backyard of an abandoned, boarded-up residence located at 1142 Sharon Avenue.
Responding medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene, and it was later determined that he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Homicide detectives from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. Investigators canvassed the area, urging residents to review security camera footage and report any gunshots heard between the evening of Tuesday, March 12, and the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 13. Preliminary information released by law enforcement suggested that the killing was not a random act of violence, but rather a targeted incident.
Despite the efforts of the lead detective and the ongoing inquiry, no suspects have been publicly identified or taken into custody in connection with the case. As the investigation continued through the year, authorities had not announced any arrests or filed charges against any individuals.
