Luke Ronald Poindexter, a 22-year-old White male from Columbus, Indiana, was fatally shot on Sunday, October 24, 2021, while working in Indianapolis. A graduate of Columbus East High School, where he had been a three-sport athlete, Poindexter was known for his positive and humble personality.
At the time of his death, he was a full-time student at Ivy Tech, making the dean's list while pursuing a degree in industrial technology and welding.
On that Sunday evening, Poindexter was working as a delivery driver on the northwest side of Indianapolis. He had only been working in the city for about a week, hoping to earn more money as he and his partner, Alexia, were expecting their first child, a son, in early December. Police were called to an apartment complex where they discovered Poindexter with multiple gunshot wounds. His car was still running and the trunk was open; he was unarmed at the time of the shooting.
