In the early morning hours of February 21, 2016, Rozzell Moore Sr., a 67-year-old male, was fatally shot in Indianapolis, Indiana. The incident occurred in the 3700 block of North Keystone Avenue, near the intersection of 38th Street and Keystone Avenue. Investigators believe that Moore was sitting in his car, preparing to leave the area, when he was approached by two individuals.
It is suspected that the confrontation was an attempted robbery that tragically escalated, resulting in Moore being shot.
Emergency services transported Moore to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting and urged anyone with information to come forward.
Following an investigation that was significantly aided by tips from the community, an arrest was made in connection with the murder. On March 18, 2016, an arrest warrant was issued for 20-year-old Junious Jackson. He was apprehended by members of the IMPD's Violent Crimes Unit and Gang Unit and subsequently faced a charge for Moore's murder, as well as an unrelated theft charge. However, the legal proceedings took an unexpected turn. On June 16, 2017, the case against Junious Jackson was dismissed due to a lack of witness cooperation, a development that highlighted the challenges prosecutors can face in bringing a case to trial. The dismissal of the charges has left the case unresolved.
