On the night of December 19, 2018, police officers on the northeast side of Indianapolis, Indiana, were alerted to gunfire just before midnight. Law enforcement officials, who were already in the vicinity of the 3100 block of North Riley Avenue near East 32nd Street and Emerson Avenue, responded rapidly to the sound of shots fired.
