On a cold February evening in Indianapolis, the life of 19-year-old Devin Calloway was tragically cut short. On February 17, 2015, Calloway and another young man, 22-year-old Daniel White, were found dead in the 1000 block of Harlan Street. The two had been fatally shot during what investigators determined was an attempted robbery.
The subsequent investigation into the double homicide led authorities to two 18-year-old suspects, Justin Kasten and Sean Wright.
Both were apprehended and faced charges of attempted robbery and felony murder. During the violent encounter, it was revealed that Kasten himself had sustained a gunshot wound to the neck. The incident sent ripples of grief and shock through the community, as friends and family mourned the loss of two young men.
In the years that followed, the wheels of justice turned. In December 2016, the charges against Sean Wright were dismissed. However, the case against Justin Kasten proceeded to trial. In September 2017, a jury found Kasten guilty of two counts of murder and one count of attempted armed robbery for his role in the deaths of Devin Calloway and Daniel White. He was subsequently sentenced to a term of 95 years in prison, bringing a measure of closure to the families of the victims.
